A web application (or web app) represents an application that is hosted on a server but also affordable from any web browser and device. Unlike a native application this one is not subject to any installation which gives access to a multitude of advantages.
Before starting the benefits of this web application, let us take here the types of applications that we consider very useful.


Here we offer 5 types of web application:

  • Static web application: developed in HTML and CSS
  • Dynamic web application: using databases to load information (updating content with each access to the web application)
  • Web application such as e-shop or e-commerce: must allow electronic payments
  • Portal application: allows access to different sections (forum, chats, email address, search engines).
  • Application with Content Manager: used in cases where content needs to be continuously updated through CMS

Here we have many models that describe the characteristics of a web application that can guide you to better understand the difference between it and other types of applications:

  • HTML5 is the only one that suffices for all operating systems, the same for all devices, it uses a unique development.
  • We do not need to download them, but what is mandatory is to be logged in to be able to access them.
  • It offers the possibility to access it from any web browser regardless of the browser installed on your device (chrome, safari, Firefox, internet explorer.
  • Since the need to be downloaded is set aside, web applications are not found in the app store but it is therefore displayed as a result in the traditional search engines for example Google.
